WE NEED YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT #NaijaindependenceNYC2017

To fund this year’s Parade and Culture Night celebration, the Nigeria Independence Day Committee (NIDC) is seeking to raise $50,000. The celebration is the largest gathering of Nigerians outside of the homeland and is recognized as the largest cultural activity by any African nation in the United States. The annual Nigeria Independence Day Celebration in New York, which started modestly in 1989 and has since grown to attract people from around the world, is organized by Organization of Advancement of Nigerians - (O.A.N) in collaboration with other Nigerian cultural, religious, professional, business, civic groups, collectively known as NIDC.

The two-day celebration will start with Culture Night on Friday, October 6th at 8 p.m... Culture Night, is where our Nigerian youth will demonstrate appreciation of their cultural heritage and select 2017 Mr. & Ms. Nigeria Independence Day Parade NYC. Culture Night will take place at the Jamaica Performing Art Center, 153-10 Jamaica Avenue, Queens, NY.
The grand finale - Nigeria Independence Day Parade & Festival – is on Saturday, October 7th in Manhattan. A parade procession along Second Avenue from 54th Street to Nigeria House on 44th Street in the heart of Manhattan will start at 10:00 AM. Immediately after the parade is the Nigeria Independence Day Festival at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza on 47th Street, near United Nations Headquarters.

Some may ask, why donate to this cause?  The Nigeria Independence Day Parade in New York City is a private community sponsored celebration, without direct government involvement. We kept it out of government influence, to maintain our integrity as a group. It is also the most effective platform to give our children pride in their cultural heritage.

We need your help and involvement. Without your support, we may be denying our children the celebration that has given them so much pride over the past 28 years.
