Nicole's Medical Mission 2018

Welcome.

I really do honestly need some help. It feels rather awkward to say that.

For some time now, I have had the privilege to be able to quietly work in organisations and volunteer services with the sole aim of helping other people.

Doing this brought me into contact with many people whose warmth and generosity has left a big impact on me.

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to be part of a team that traveled to Papua New Guinea to provide medical assistance to people who cannot access these services.

Long story short - it changed my life.

People in developing nations and remote areas are not easy to get to and sometimes the scale of the problem can seem overwhelming. I heard again and again that :
“Even if you could get funding, which is almost impossible, where are you going to find enough trained people to go to these places and put themselves through that for free?”

Well, I have ten years working in a security function. I have five years volunteering at St John Ambulance. I have made hundreds of meals at community kitchens. I have also travelled to remote places for enjoyment. Maybe I could be one of those people?

So I started a paramedic course to up skill myself . I also applied for a Medical Missions Gap Year beginning January 2018, and I was successful in gaining a place.

I am currently personally involved in the setup of a mobile medical clinic with the aim of providing a free to use medical service to remote locations.

In order to complete this medical mission, I need to cover the cost of transport, food, and supplies, in addition to my training and equipment for a whole year.

I have raided my savings, and whilst I have about half of what I need to complete this effort, I am still about half short.

So that brings me to where we are today, here on this Gofundme page. As I click around this site there are so many truly worthy causes that you could contribute to. I get it.

I’m asking that you please consider making a contribution to this fundraising. Although sharing this page on your social media does help (and is appreciated!) donations big and small are what is going to take this from an idea to a team of people actually spending a year of their lives making a difference to people who would otherwise never receive even basic care.

Thanks to the amazing people who have donated through this page already, I have raised around $1000 towards my goal of $10,000.

I wish I could see all those who've donated in person and try and express to them how much gratitude I have for their donation and their vote of confidence in me to see this through and make a difference.
