Help Nicki Recover from Accident

THE STORY:
One year ago, I was given the opportunity to move to China and I took it. This was a fairly random decision but, as many of you know, it's in my nature to explore new experiences when they present themselves.

After a rocky start, I found a great job, good friends and settled into life here. Everything was going really well until a couple of weeks ago when I got into a terrible traffic accident.

Like millions of people in this country, I ride an ebike (electric scooter).

While driving home in the evening, I came upon an SUV illegally parked in the bike lane blocking most of the narrow path.

As I tried to pass it on the left (where all I could see were bushes) a one-foot tall hard stone curb shredded my ankle.

In a freak accident , my left anterior tibial tendon, artery, and nerves were completely severed causing a copious amount of blood loss. Luckily, I was rushed to the hospital and had emergency surgery to reconnect the tendon & artery.

After one week in the hospital, the wound got infected and I had to have a second surgery that removed not only the infected skin and tissue but part of my muscle.

I was on a wound vac for another week until all of the infected tissue was eradicated and the wound was deep, but healthy again.

Now I am convelescing at home and returning to the hospital regularly for treatment and to monitor my progress. It's possible I may need two more surgeries, but now it's just a waiting game.

I started this campaign because the two surgeries and hospital stay exhausted all of my savings and I'm pretty much broke. And, if it's determined I need another surgery or two, I simply cannot afford it now.

Some people have inquired as to why I don't have medical insurance. My company here told me I didn't need it and they would look after me. It didn't exactly turn out that way.  Hindsight is 20/20.

I impolore you, friends and strangers of the internet, to help in any way possible. I have great friends here, but I'm essentially going through this on my own. Language barriers and cultural differences have made this a scary and surreal experience, but thank goodness I'm on the healing end of things. It could have been much, much worse and I'm grateful it wasn't.

Please help if you can - no donation or kind thought is too small. Thank you!
