Nichole's Chemotherapy

Donation protected
Hi ladies and gents!  As a family, we feel weird about this, but unfortunately, it's something we have to do.  In July of 2017, my mom, Nichole, went to a regularly scheduled ophthalmologist appointment not knowing her life would be turned upside down.

They found a mass in the corner of her eye.  They scheduled a biopsy, and it came back as squamous cell carcinoma.  In January of 2018, mom had her second surgery to remove the mass.  Of course, it was bigger than what they expected, turning a one and a half hour surgery into a three and a half hour surgery.

A few months passed and mom realized it was growing back.  In July of 2018, they took another biopsy and it came back more aggressive than the first time around.  Two days later,  she was rushed into emergency surgery to remove another tumor.  Roswell was not able to help due to the fact that there is no ocular oncologist in the Western New York region.

At this time, she was referred to Cleveland Clinic, but it was out of network.  They searched for an ocular oncologist in network, and she ended up at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.   Mom and dad made their first trip on August 31, 2018.   Since then, they have been going back and forth on Fridays, every three weeks.

During her second visit, they took another biopsy and she was told she would need to go through her sixth surgery to remove the tumors.   The cancer had grown to her eyelid and deeper in the orbit.  She was also told she would need chemotherapy drops after her surgery.

Now, here is where we need your help.  Up until December 1, 2018, Nichole had great insurance.  The medical group she works for switched insurance companies and now she has a hefty deductible.  We have to pay for her appointments and her chemotherapy drops out of pocket until that deductible is met.  As you all know, insurance companies are not the easiest to work with; they delay necessary medical treatments due to prior authorizations and high deductibles.

My mom had an appointment coming up on Friday, December 14, 2018, but she had to cancel due to financial troubles.   We cannot afford her appointments, treatments, and travel expenses to make it down to the city and back.  This has hit us hard, and we have tried to figure out  every way possible to come up with the money.  This is our last resort, and like I said before, we feel very strange about this.  Every little bit helps, every share helps spread the word.  Thank you for your time and consideration, we really appreciate it.
