On Tuesday (November 15), my sister Nichola's mom experienced a nightmare scenario: She came home from work and thought Jim, her husband of 35+ years, had gone for a walk. After an hour or two, she got worried and started looking for him. Jim was laying outside with a fractured skull and other injuries and had lost a lot of blood. He was immediately rushed to ICU where he has remained in a coma since. His prognosis is not good and Nichola needs to get out there to be with her mom and, if the worst case happens, help plan a funeral.
Unfortunately, Nichola doesn't have the money to be with her family. She lives in Belgium with her husband, Martin, and their teenage daughter. A year ago, Martin was diagnosed with cancer and has spent the last year going through chemo, radiation, and the overall recovery process. While he is now thankfully in remission, he has not been able to work for the past year and they have gone through their savings just to keep up. To make matters worse, Nichola does not have any paid leave left and will have to take leave without pay while she is in California.
Anyone who knows Nichola knows that she is one of the most caring and giving people out there. If it is within her power, she will give anyone whatever they need. This is our chance to help Nichola out by giving back to her in her time of need.
Any money raised will be used to pay for Nichola's flight and transportation while she is in California, and to help cover her lost wages while she is out there. Any extra money will be used to help pay some large bills that they need to pay before the end of the year.
Nichola would never ask anyone else for help, so I'm asking for her. Thank you for any amount you can give.
