Homeward Bound Expedition

I'm a veteran educator with over 35 years of teaching experience.  One of my greatest passions for the past 18 years:  being directly involved in three Antarctic science research projects taking place at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, and teaching learners of all ages about the polar regions through education outreach initiatives.  Visit my blog at: www.scienceroadshow.wordpress.com to see examples of my work.

What's next?  I have been chosen to be one of 78 women in science from around the world who are part of Homeward Bound, a global collaboration and expedition to Antarctica in December 2016.  Homeward Bound is an inspiring leadership and strategic initiative teamed with a science education program on climate, biological and earth system research, set against the back drop of Antarctica.

This opportunity will allow me to continue my own education, provide leadership and strategic planning training, and further prepare me to teach communities of learners around the globe. I am especially focused on keeping young students (particularly girls) interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and possible careers in these areas.

Each woman chosen for this expedition has been tasked with raising $15,000 to contribute toward their berth on the ship/expedition.  See our web page at:  http://homewardboundprojects.com.au/  to learn more about Homeward Bound and how this project is funded by additional contributors and in-kind donations.

****  For each $500 benchmark (cumulative) I reach, I will locate a school unable to afford an assembly/guest speaker and I will spend a day with that school; giving free Polar presentations to increase science knowledge and awareness of STEM being used in our Polar regions.  Your donation will be put right back into education...immediately!

I would be so grateful for your contribution, which will ensure that my mission of education outreach can continue well into the future.  Please help me reach my goal for participation in Homeward Bound.

An inspiring leadership and strategic initiative teamed with a science education program on climate, biological and earth system research, set against the back drop of Antarctica, for 78 women scientists from around the globe.  This is the start of a ten year outreach initiative to build a 1,000 strong global collaboration of women in science, who have had the same experience at sea together, focussing on the leadership and planning required to contribute to the recognition of our planet as home.

Aim:

** elevate each participant’s leadership capabilities

** educate the team on how polar science can tell us what is happening to our planet

** refine their skills to design and execute strategy, devising plans for future collaborations as women working towards a sustainable future.

How:

**  at sea for twenty days, led by Greg Mortimer (expedition leader), setting sail from Ushuaia,  Argentina on December 2nd 2016

**  twelve days of state of the art leadership and strategic planning training delivered by Dr. Susan David, Kit Jackson and Fabian Dattner, all experts in their fields

**  six days of a cutting edge science education program incorporating the most up to date and relevant research about the state and functioning of our planet delivered by leading Australian academics

**  a documentary (60 minute multi media release) is being made, following the journey and exploring the role of women in our world

**  primarily underwritten by Dattner Grant (see "Support" section of website for further details)
