NFB Newsline for Maine

Tax deductible
Imagine for a moment you couldn't access the local newspaper, with the job listings, obits, letters to the editor, and all the community events. A vision loss or blindness may make the local newspaper completely inaccessible, particularly if you are not a seasoned computer user.

Many elders in Maine, who have been newspaper readers their whole lives, are faced with just this situation. Age-related eye diseases like macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, or just an injury to the eyes can suddenly make reading the newspaper impossible--cutting them off from the local community.

The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) provides free access to the newspaper by telephone for anyone within the state with a visual impairment. This easy-to-use service provides access to the Portland Press Herald and Bangor Daily News to nearly 500 Mainers  with vision impairments.

NFB of Maine needs your support to restore this statewide service to our community members who are unable to read the printed local paper. Thank you for your generosity.
