A New Leg for Puppy Smith

$3,000 of $3,000 goal

Raised by 32 people in 4 months
We have seen our fair share of upsetting cases but this one boggles the mind.

A good samaritan found this Smith in the middle of nowhere...it was was well over 100 degrees and he was tens of miles from anything but a gas station.

It's enough to wonder how someone could leave a puppy in the middle of the desert, but even more upsetting when his rescuer noticed he was missing his back foot and the injury had never been properly treated--although somewhat healed over, there was bone protuding through the skin.

And yet this puppy had NOTHING BUT LOVE for everyone he met! Moreover the foot didn't slow him down for one second--much to his foster brother and sister's chagrin.

Not ones to shy away from a dog with medical issues, Wags and Walks took Smith in and set off to find the best solution.

We immediately brought him to an orthopedic specialists. While we assumed they would suggest  amputation, the doctors had a different suggestion.

Due to the location and nature of the injury and given  how young and nimble he was it was suggestion that we opt for a prosthetic leg.

After much research Smith has been accepted into a program to work with and orthotic specialist named Derrick Campana, CO. He is the director of Orthotics at Animal OrthoCare in Virginia.

The way it will work is that we will take a precise mold of his leg, and then they would send back a custom prosthetic (~2 week process).

Once Smith grows out of the first one we would repeat the process all over until he’s fully grown.

They charge us a flat rate regardless of how many version we would need.

Once fully grown, the final prosthetic should last the lifetime of the dog with some minimal yearly costs for upkeep.

It is urgent that we get started as soon as possible, while Smith is still “using his leg”.

The cost is $3000 and we need the money up front to get started.

Will you help?

Smith is currently in a foster home but he is also looking for a home that can help this miracle pup through the process!
