Newcastle Art Centre has been supporting artists in our community for over 30 years. We have been humming along nicely in our current home in Parry Street but now we need to move.
The Centre has been a fertile ground for many successful Newcastle creatives, providing support for emerging and professional artists, hands-on experience for promising gallery directors and a training ground for young actors. We provide studio space for artists achieving local and international success. Meredith Woolnough, Rachel Milne, the Strutt Sisters, Peter Lankas, John Morris and Pablo Tapia have been part of our community. Our alumni include John Earle, Dallas Bray and Michael Bell.
Some things you may not know...
More than 200 people attend classes and workshops in our space each week.
Over 4000 people attend exhibitions and events annually.
More than 300 artists exhibit in our gallery each year.
We need your help to create a vibrant cultural destination in the heart of the city. We need your help to establish ourselves in our new premises.
We've worked with Connectability Australia, Mission Australia, Hunter New England Health, Morisset Hospital, RichmondPRA, Catholic Schools Office, Accessible Arts NSW, Samaritans, Mater Hospital, James Fletcher Hospital and many others.
As Charles Landry said, "What is the value of imagination, creativity, culture, heritage, the arts or design for city development? Name a city that is globally important, but weak in these spheres".
This is a call out to the Hunter Community. Large or small donations - we don't mind - we will be eternally grateful either way.
