Newark Latino Film Festival

What a year it's been!

Newark Latino Film Festival has been widely embraced by the community, and has grown tremendously over the last year. The actual film festival debuted in 2018, hosting seven events in seven locations for Hispanic Heritage Month. We debuted our film, "LatinX Fusion: Culture at the Crossroads" at Newark Museum as part of their own kick off to Hispanic Heritage Month. It was also an honor to be officially included in and recognized by the Newark Arts Festival. We've continued with monthly screenings at O'LaLa Empanadas and QXT's Night Club. April found us partnering with Newark CultureCon, where we hosted a screening, film workshops, and provided a panel discussion and cultural entertainment by the newly formed Newark Latino Artist Collective (an outgrowth of the Newark Latino Film Festival). We presented LEGEND Awards to Felipe Luciano and Willie Sanchez. Winning filmmakers, actors, producers, and our venue partners also received formal recognition. We, in turn, were recognized with certificates by Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and Deputy Mayor Jacqueline Quiles, and by Newark Puerto Rican Day Parade Committee. Finally, we received a donation from North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos.

Our theme, UNIDOS, was justified and welcomed. We had no idea that our film festival would be the catalyst of Latino cultural unification. For that, we are grateful. The friends we've made, the alliances that have formed, the organizations that have provided encouragement and emotional support through this journey have been enriching and humbling.

Most of our followers are aware that we funded the film festival and events out of our own pockets. We didn't have much of a budget to work with, butt we made it happen. But we realize we cannot do this alone.

By making a donation, you will help to defray costs for venues, awards, programs, refreshments, etc. Your name will be added to our website's Community Supporters page (you have the option of remaining anonymous).

We need your immediate support. Every bit helps. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Let's make this 2019 2nd Annual Newark Latino Film Festival an even greater success. Thanks in advance. Hope to see you there!
