New van for Special Recreation

Special Recreation Services, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing recreational and socialization activities for independent adults (18+) who are intellectually disabled, autistic and/or mentally ill in the Monroe County and Slatebelt areas of Pennsylvania.
We currently use a 2006 minivan which was donated to us, to transport clients to the daily activities. We have grown from 10 clients in 2013 to currently serving 36 clients. Our minivan only holds 5 clients comfortably and so we have had to prioritize who can receive transportation from our organization. The van is in need of so many repairs, we have been told the repairs would cost significantly more than the van is worth. It has already broken down 2 times in the past 2 years.
We do not have a recreation center. All of our activities take place in the community at places such as the bowling alley, theaters, health clubs, community centers, libraries, public swimming pools, art studios, restaurants and much more. For this reason we rely on our vehicle to transport many of our clients to all of these places. If our van breaks down again then we can’t transport the clients to activities and our program will be in jeopardy.
If we were to have a bigger vehicle then we would be able to transport 15 clients to activities instead of just 5. The more clients that want to attend activities the more money we would bring in to assist in the operation of the program.
