New Heart for Allie Kovarik (Waasdorp)

Donation protected
We recently learned that Allie is in need of a new heart. Here is her story …

At the young age of 10 years old Allie was diagnosed with a genetic muscle disease called "multicore muscle disease".  This disease affects your skeletal muscles which in Allies case included her heart.  Medication has allowed Allie to live a normal life overall.

In 2012, she started to notice some additional weaknesses and more frequent palpitations. At that time, the doctors recommended that a pacemaker/defibrillator (ICD) be placed for backup.

On January  21st, 2016, Allies ejection fraction had decreased causing her to develop blood clots that moved to her brain which caused her to have a stroke.  Sanford's quick reaction extracting the clots allowed Allie to make a full recovery and be back at work in 1 week.

In the beginning of 2019, Allie's ICD went off 12 times, she had a heart ablation and had a new ICD put in to help her heart functions.  Since the procedures, Allie has not felt well and ended up in the doctors office several times  A follow-up appointment to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester on May 1st  found that the heart function had declined even more.  She was admitted to the hospital, has been accepted to the transplant donor list and is now awaiting a heart transplant procedure.
