New Freezer for Central Services

Morristown-Hamblen Central Services began as a grassroots agency in the 1930’s, became an official non-profit under its current name in 1969, and has always been a community-funded agency meeting the needs of Hamblen county, TN, residents. Our major programs are a food pantry, emergency rent and utility services, and the Holiday Hope Fund Christmas program. The United Way provides over half of our annual budget (who receives their funds through community donations), with the rest coming from direct community donations and sales from the agency’s thrift store. In 2015, our food pantry was able to provide over 1.2 million pounds of food to 6,816 households, or 18,599 individuals, in Hamblen County. The Food Recovery Program is our primary way of obtaining food for the pantry. Between Second Harvest deliveries and Central Services pickups, 769,684 pounds, or 61% of food provided to the pantry, is recovered from area grocery stores and restaurants. This food may be close to expiration, so freezers are utilized to keep this recovered food safe until it can be distributed in the pantry.
After having just replaced a freezer in late 2016, another freezer has broken at the beginning of this year. The cost of a freezer is $17,000. It will be purchased from a local company and installed by students from a technical school in Morristown. Central Services relies on support from the community to keep its services running, and we ask that you consider donating to this specific need so we can keep our food pantry running properly.
Although our goal is large, even the smallest donations still put us closer to providing the best service we can to our food pantry clients. Whatever amount you give, we are grateful for your donation and commitment to our community.
