Fly Bottle Records is releasing a new album – a new conceptual exploration of finding musical inspiration from a play - and we need your help to get it through the final stages of production.

The album is being developed as a companion to the rolling world premiere productions of the play “The Arsonists” by Jacqueline Goldfinger opening at Azuka Theatre Company in May 2017.

Featured artists include: Sarah Gliko, Hezekiah Jones, Dan Bruskewicz (TJ Kong and the Atomic Bomb), Noggin Hill, Melanie Hsu, James Michael Baker (The Spinning Leaves, OOLALA, Johnny Showcase and the Mystic Ticket), Ladybird, Evan Cory Levine, Meaghan Kyle (No Good Sister), Koofreh Ibi Umoren (West Philadelphia Orchestra, Wookiedelphia), Vessna Scheff, Howard Pardue, Jawbone Junction, and others.

We thought the play felt like music, and we wanted to bring those sounds to life. So we set out to translate the lyrical landscape of this intimate dark comedy into musical soundscapes. With a diverse all-star line-up of many of the finest musicians from across the broad spectrum of Philly’s new folk and creative music scenes, The Arsonists represents a new concept in music derived from storytelling. The album’s 17 tracks capture the eerie, desiccated beauty, swampy mysteriousness, and rutted path from heartbreak to illumination in “The Arsonists” play. Set deep in the swamp in Tate’s Hell, Florida, the play is about the unbreakable bonds between parent and child, and was inspired by the Greek tragedy, Electra.

This is not your typical folk record. Fly Bottle Records’ mission - traditions in expansion - is to support musicians working at the intersections of roots and innovation. We’ve shaped this album to advance that mission, and we’re packing it full of surprises. Taken together, the album will tell a new story you can take with you either after you’ve seen the play, or completely on its own. The Arsonists will include original songs inspired by the play, engaging, twisted arrangements of traditional Appalachian folk tunes, and some surprising Southern Gothic takes on contemporary songs. The album release is set for May 6, 2017, to coincide with the world premiere opening night at Azuka.

By pre-ordering the album - along with some other added goodies - you’ll help make sure we can take the final steps we need to get us over the finish line. Your order will go directly towards mixing, mastering, album art, CD duplication and printing. With your support, we will release The Arsonists and get it right on time for opening night.

Thank you for your support!
