Chad’s Battle with Huntingtons

$5,175 of $7,500 goal

Created July 28, 2017

Many of you may  know about my nephew, Chad, who is suffering from Huntington’s Disease.  For those unfamiliar with this horrible and fatal disease, it is described as having Alzheimer’s, Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS), Parkinson’s Disease and, sometimes, Schizophrenia.

Chad is now a resident in a long-term nursing home located in New York, approximately 3,000 miles from his home. It is an excellent facility that specializes in Huntington’s Disease. Your donations have gone a long way in helping make this possible.

Our new focus is to see that Chad’s  mother can travel to and from New York.  She has promised both Chad and herself that she will fly to New York to visit as often as possible in order to give him something to look forward to, and also to keep him from feeling so alone. Chad has no friends or relatives in New York or anywhere nearby.

Chad’s mother still pays for his prescription coverage,  eyeglasses and check-ups, dental needs, clothing and grooming needs, as well as airline tickets, rental car fees and lodging in New York when she visits him. Donations to help pay for their expenses, no matter how small, can make a difference.

Joe and I are committing to a monthly contribution to this effort. If anyone wants to contribute to this fund, any amount is greatly appreciated. Thank you VERY much to our wonderful, generous family members and friends who have already donated.  And, thank you to those who will be making donations in the near future. Again, no amount is too small.  All donations are greatly appreciated.

God bless ❤️

Chad is now in a facility in New York. This is a facility that specializes in Huntington’s. He has no family there so he will be facing this struggle without benefit of family or friends. Our new focus is to try to provide funds so that his mother can spend extended periods of time with him as his health declines. Your help with any amount is very much appreciated.

Chad is now in New Jersey. As mentioned in previous posts, the facility where he is currently living is the only one that would accept him at a time when there were no other options. He had to leave California, endure a three day trip in a medical transport vehicle and settle in a nursing home that is 3,000 miles from his home.

My sister travels back and forth from California to New Jersey, making sure the endless and intrusive insurance paperwork gets processed and approved, as well as trying to ensure that Chad receives the best of care possible for his condition.

The need for funding will continue for Chad and for his mother. She has promised both Chad and herself that she will fly to New Jersey to visit as often as possible, in order to give him something to look forward to and also to keep him from feeling so alone. It has been awhile since I updated this campaign. With much needed attention on Hurricane Harvey here in Texas, I chose to temporarily stop posting regarding my nephew.

My nephew, Chad, is now in New Jersey. As mentioned in previous posts, the facility he where he is living is the only one that would accept him.
He had to leave California, endure a three day trip in a medical transport vehicle and settle in a place that is 3,000 miles from his home.

My sister is in New Jersey, working through endless and intrusive paperwork, trying to ensure that Chad can remain in the only facility available.

The need will continue for Chad and for his mother. It would be difficult for his mother to visit from California, she will need funds that will allow her to visit.

Joe and I are committing to a monthly contribution to this effort. If anyone wants to contribute to this fund, any amount is greatly appreciated. There are wonderful, generous family members and friends who have already donated and we cannot thank you enough. ❤️
