Nehemiah Project - Backpack Chatt

I would like the opportunity to give you a brief history of the Backpack Project.  Under the umbrella of Front Porch Alliance, the Project was started in 2001 as a result of a vision of a local businessman.  To date, we have distributed over 65,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to children who might have otherwise gone without.  This year, we are once again bringing blessings to over 6,000 students who desperately need our help.

Many of us live average lives and we don’t aspire to be a superhero.  But when you step up and invest in a backpack for a student – you become a superhero to that child.  For every $12, you provide basic school supplies:  24 pack of Crayola Crayons, a dozen #2 pencils, a 12 pack of colored pencils, a 150 count pack of wide ruled notebook paper, a pencil sharpener, a ruler and two glue sticks) and a copy of God’s Word to a child.  As the child grows in wisdom and stature, the superheroes of the comic books are replaced with stories of real life superheroes who are men and women of faith.  It gives them hope and a sense of a future.

We are currently meeting the needs of all kindergarten through fifth grade students at the following Title I schools:

Volunteers are needed to sort supplies and stuff the backpacks the first two weeks in August.  Volunteers are also needed to distribute the filled backpacks at the schools on Tuesday, August 15 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.   This allows volunteers an opportunity to see the blessings of helping a child.
