Need help for Cancer Fighter Saurabh

Donation protected
This is the story of Saurabh Ner (McGill Alumni, 2019) who came to Canada in August 2016 to pursue his Master’s degree at McGill University, Montreal. Everything was going well until on May 28, 2017 he realized that his right side of face is not showing any movement. After visiting Emergency Room in Canada, he came to know he got Bells Palsy (condition in which half side of face does not show any movement, in short it is a temporary paralysis).

He was not able to get proper medical care here and doctors were not able to determine the cause. Moreover, he was given some appointments with neurologist and various specialists with 1 month later dates. After his family's and friends suggestions he decided to visit back India for the treatment. In India, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (type of blood cancer). He didn't loose hope and fought hard. He went through rigorous and painful treatment and fortunately recovered in a year. This treatment costed his family around INR 20,00,000  ($40,000), and they ended up using all their savings.

In July 2018, he came back to Canada to complete his studies and started his remaining treatment here in Jewish General Hospital. He completed his Masters' and graduated in June 2019. He was so happy with everything and was looking to move forward in life since his treatment was also in last stages. However, his happiness couldn't last for long. In October 2019, his cancer relapsed. This time it was worse than first time. According to doctors, he needed bone marrow transplant for his survival. His bone marrow profile didn't match with family which prolonged the process. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, this whole process got slower. He was discharged from hospital in February 2020 as he showed improvements, with a hope he might get the donor soon.

In a sad turn of events, his Leukemia relapsed again last month and now he is again hospitalized. Currently he is admitted in Jewish General Hospital, Montreal. This time, cancer has spread to all body parts including bone marrow. Now doctors have given up all the hopes and they believe bad news might come at any moment.

Through this campaign we are trying to help him as much as we can. He doesn't even have any private insurance to cover the costs (only RAMQ with limited coverage).  He also has INR 15,00,000 ($30,000) student loan. We request all of you to help raise the funds to support his family. He wishes to see his family again. We also need funds to send him back to India along with his mother. His family is exhausted with finances due to all these expenses.

We (Aman Garg, Madhusudan Epte and Vishvaja Keluskar) have started this fundraiser on behalf of Saurabh's parents with their consent.  Since Saurabh's situation is very critical, we are depositing the money to Madhusudan's bank account, and will be thereafter transferring to his father's account.

If anyone can’t help him economically your blessings prayers are equally important for his recovery.

Thank you
