In April 2017, Nazeeya started complaining of headaches. They were pretty frequent and varied in intensity. She was taken to the hospital on multiple occasions and was repeatedly sent away without any answers. In May 2017, Nazeeya’s left eye began to turn inward; at this time, she was taken back to the ER and finally received a CT scan. A brain tumor was found in her 4th ventricle, and she was rushed to Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta.
The tumor was preventing fluids from draining naturally, which is what was causing the headaches and eye issues. Nazeeya quickly underwent brain surgery to have the tumor removed, and the doctors hoped everything would immediately begin to drain on its own again. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen, and Nazeeya had to be life-flighted from Athens back to Atlanta for another emergency surgery to release the pressure on her brain and to help the fluid begin to drain.
The pathology reports from the tumor determined that it was, in fact, a cancerous tumor. Nazeeya then participated in a clinical study where she received only chemotherapy to treat the cancer, enduring 9 months of chemo. During this time she had highs and lows, missing a large portion of her second grade year. Ultimately she finished her treatment in June 2018, and we all celebrated this huge victory!
On November 7th, Nazeeya had a routine scan to make sure her margins were still clear, and unfortunately we got some bad news. There are two new tumors growing on Nazeeya’s brain. This page is to raise money to help support me (mom) and my sweet girl through the second phase of this journey.
While monetary donations are greatly needed and appreciated, prayers, good thoughts, and words of encouragement are wonderful too. Thank you in advance for helping Nazeeya get back to her healthy, happy life!
