Home flooded twice in 24 hours

Donation protected
Flooded twice in a week and have lost everything.

We have always dreamed of living in the sun on the Big Island ofHawaii. We  moved to the Hawaiian Islands Feb 2014. We purchased our home at 76-6160 Plumeria Road, Kailua Kona in July 2014 with the plan to renovate the home and pool. We have worked full-time jobs as well as what felt like full time jobs at home renovating for the past year. We were down to the last room with renovating when we were hit by flash flooding. We initially had some seapage into one entire room Sept 4 with heavy rain, but on Sept 15 during the dinner hour, we were totally submerged with 18-24 inches of water throughout entire home, property, pool and garage. We were flooded out within 20-30 minutes and had to abandon property.

We were at homesite the next day removing carpets and assessing damage when another flash flood hit our home. There was no rain and the sun was shining and yet rainwater from the mountains came down and submerged us in another foot of water.

At this point we are removing drywall, tearing out all flooring, cupboards and trying to clean up mud and debris from inside the home, pool and garage. It is unclear at this point what the next step is. We need to be assured that floodways or run off zones are in proper working order and free of any debris; or be assured that steps have been implemented to stop this from occuring again.

We are overwhelmed and distraught. We  had not been offered flood insurance because we apparently had been in a 100 year no flood zone. A few neighbours in our subdivision also had some surface flooding but for some reason we were submerged and water took a couple of hours to drain away. Neighbours that have lived here 30 plus years have never had any water damage and so this is a very unusual and unfortunate event.

We are very humbled to even be sharing our story or asking for assistance.  We appreciate peoples prayers and caring acts of kindness. Pray that there will be no more flooding, no mold complications and that we have the energy and mental strength for this undertaking. Any expertise, contact information, advise or assistance would be helpful. May you all be blessed for your love and concern.
