National Guard Hero Needs Our Help

National Guard Sgt. Justin Smith is known as a hero to many throughout his military career. Most recently, Justin assisted in several rescue missions during the Great Louisiana Floods of 2016 in the Southeast region. During those rescues, no one ever guessed that as Justin risked his life to save them, the rising waters had chased his own wife, Misty, and their toddlers from their Hammond home to higher ground.
Yet, like a true soldier and soldier's wife, Justin and Misty fought back through much adversity. Following the sale of their gutted home in Hammond, they turned their efforts into moving into their "forever home" in Franklinton, LA by Christmas of 2016.
Little did Justin and Misty Smith know that as they settled into their new home, the greatest challenge of their lives lay right around the bend.
On Feb 17, 2017, Justin was involved in an ATV accident. He was riding with some friends and the ATV flipped, landing on top of him.
Justin’s friends removed the ATV off of him to reveal obvious and extensive damage to his left leg.
An ambulance transported Justin to the nearest trauma hospital where they discovered numerous breaks in his left leg, several broken ribs, severe road rash, and a musculoskeletal injury to his shoulder. By the hand of God, Justin is blessed to be alive. So far Justin has undergone numerous surgeries to save his leg, and he remains in the ICU of an out of state hospital.
This event has left Justin in unimaginable pain, and Misty scrambling, and in need of our help, as medical bills are already rolling in.
Please pray for Justin’s full physical and emotional recovery, and for him to draw ever near to His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please pray for strength and peace for Misty as she walks through the challenge of holding down her job, mothering her boys, and tending to her husband’s needs. Pray for their boys, Cayden and Thomas, as they process this past year of going through two floods, losing their home, and now, their father’s injuries and his temporary absence.
