Nat Greene Homestead Barn

$2,630 of $75,000 goal

The Gen. Nathanael Greene Homestead, a National Historic Landmark  in Coventry RI, is a house museum located in Spell Hall, the home built in 1770 by George Washington's most trusted general and Revolutionary War Hero of the South, Nathanael Greene. The Homestead once had a beautiful colonial barn and other structures including a large three forge trip-hammer foundry. All of these out- buildings have since been torn down, starting withthe forge in the mid 18th century.

The last building removed was the barn. This barn  was torn down when the property was sold out of the family and subdivided in the early 20th century.  We are hoping to raise $75,000 to build a replica of the barn on our remaining 11 acres of the original Homestead for use as a classroom , for educational programs and special events. If you would like to help contribute to this project we are gladly accepting donations.

The Gen. Nathanael Greene Homestead is a 501 (c)3 non=profit

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our barn project! The foundation forms are going in today and the cement will be poured tomorrow. The building should be up, roofed and sided by the Fall. We are still in need of funds to install the fire alarm in the building in order to be safe as a classroom and event space. We are still gladly accepting donations to this end.
Thank you.

The logs for our new barn have been delivered to Hauser Wood Products saw mill in Foster, Rhode Island and we anticipate breaking ground in early May. With our current funds we will be able to pour the foundation, erect the frame, side and roof this Spring. We are still in need of additional funding to install the electical and handicapped accessible restroom.
Thank you all for your continued support.

We are happy to announce that with your generous support, other fundraising efforts and a grant from the Champlin Foundation, we gave raised enough funds to begin building our barn. Although we have not raised the full amount needed to funish the barn to fit all of our needs, we will be able to begin to utilize it on a limited basis for educational programs as we continue our fundraising campaign. Hauser Timber Frames, a well respected local family business will be cutting and erecting our post and beam barn frame this Spring. http://www.hausertimberframes.com
Stay tuned for updates and donations are always welcome to help us complete this project. Thank you for all of your support.

This is a great cause. The Greene family was the best thing that ever happened to Rhode Island. They deserve (not a term I use lightly) recognition and honoring, no doubt. Please join me in supporting this effort.

I am so happy to be a part of this process from Stockton CA. I saw the sight as a teenager while visiting relatives in Coventry/ Sears 5 Acres in 70s. Cannot wait to see again Fall 2018,.

I visited the Nathaniel Greene house a few years ago and was impressed with the good things you all were doing with so little. Thanks for preserving history.
