Nat King Cole Mural Repair Fund

My name is Chris Devins . I am a Chicago, IL based Artist/Urban Planner known for large, outdoor murals.
In honor of his birthday tomorrow, March 17, I am seeking to raise $1950 in community support to repair the Nat King Cole mural that I created at 43rd and King Drive, Chicago. The mural made its debut July 21, 2014, serving as the first in a series that now includes large, outdoor murals of A. Philip Randolph, Rashid Lynn (Common) , Lorraine Hansberry, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong and the Bronzeville Marianos , Chatham 2.0, Hyde Park Heroes , and other community Art initiatives.
Because it on a busy street, the mural has developed several tears in it. I am donating my time and skills and some of the materials necessary to repair it ; all the funds raised will go towards restoring the mural to its original condition.
The purpose of this mural is to celebrate Bronzeville resident Nat King Cole's many accomplishments, such as being the first African American with his own variety TV show. The mural is a valuable teaching tool used by educators and others to teach our children the value of hard work, entrepreneurship, artistry, perseverance and is designed to counteract the negative images about Chicago's South Side put out by some "If it bleeds, it leads" media.
An exercise in community trust, despite its being at ground level, no one has damaged the mural and it has since become a community fixture used to rep the area by the Chicago Community Trust, Channel 11, ABC, NBC and other media outlets.
