Nancy Marion Leukemia Treatment pt2
Nancy is an intelligent, kind, caring a very funny woman. I am her friend. I'm setting up this fundraiser to help her cope with this ordeal. I've already asked many people to donate via previous fundrasiers, but I am asking again because I believe it is up to us to help her. The american social safety net is a farce and a disgrace to humanity itself. Everyone is well aware of the fiscal cruelty that is America's health insurance industry.
Imagine yourself or a loved one having to deal with all of this in addition to the pain the illness itself brings. I don't know how Nancy does it, but she does. As does her mother Cheri.
This isn't someone asking for money to make a music video, or purchase studio time to record an album, or fund a vanity project masquearding as a cause. This is my friend's LIFE.
Donations will be used to help offset the unavoidable and immense cost of her prolonged treatment. There's hundreds of items insurance will not cover and even with insurance everyone knows additional bills from the medical complex will find their to Nancy and Cheri, increasing the strain and pressure. Forcing their attention away from treatment and recovery. Her illness has put a great financial strain on her family as well. Her mother Cheri has been by her side this entire time. You think you are a good mom? Perhaps you are. Cheri is redefining what it means to be a GREAT mother. She has left her home and life behind to care for Nancy.
In my imagination, I wish a person or persons with exhorbitant wealth would just appear and cut Nancy a giant check to put her and Cheri's mind at ease for the duration of her treatment and recovery, but I know this is unlikely to happen. We cannot wait for such a miarcle.
It's up to us to raise these funds.
Her friends. Our friends. The friends of our friends. Perhaps even strangers who don't even know Nancy and Cheri but are simply moved by their situation to create a kindness in a world that, these days, seems more unkind than ever.
Please help us raise this money for these two amazing human beings. Spread the word. Cajole your friends, colleagues, teammates, enemies, neighbors, family members etc. If it is one I've learned from doing the previous fundraiser for Nancy, it takes more than simply posting this to your Facebook page. It takes more than prayers and positive vibes. We have to WANT it. We have to WORK it.
Work it people. Work it.
For those on Facebook, the public event page is: https://www.facebook.com/events/836272999846228/
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is suggested. A page for contributions in Nancy’s honor is at: http://events.lls.org/pages/nca/marion
And, finally, if you are moved to Light the Night with Team Pants in October, you can join here: http://pages.lightthenight.org/nca/WashDC17/teampants
Team Pants Update...We will be holding a Memorial for Nancy Marion, on February 11, 2016 from 7PM - 10PM at the Washington Ethical Society, 7750 16th Street N.W., Washington, D.C..
I hope you will be able to join us as we celebrate my daughter's life.
I would appreciate it if you could help me fill a book with photo's and a memory or two of time you shared with Nancy. I am thinking of titling the book "I Remember Your Pants" or "Don't Forget Your Pants", though I am open to other ideas.
Please let me know if you are able to attend. We need a head count for the caterer as we will be serving hors d'oeuvres along with beer & wine, and hopefully Barq's Root Beer and other soft drinks as well!
We are working out the details on how to set up a place or site for donating to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in memory of Nancy.
We are also trying to do something with Be the Match.
I am proud to know many of you and to call you my friends, and to those I do not know or have not met, thank you again, and I hope to one day shake your hand.
We will have a memorial service for Nancy sometime after the New Year. In the meantime, please keep Cheri and her family in your thoughts and hearts. While we have lost a truly special person, Cheri has lost a daughter. She has been through so much and carried so much of the weight. She is an inspiration an amazing mother and human being. My condolences to her and everyone who knew and loved Nanc. She will be missed.
Also, presently Cheri is very tired and needs to rest so please give her some time to do this until her husband can arrive from Virginia later this afternoon.
Much love, Randy
I will definitely be attending the memorial.
Hi Randi, Is there a way that those of us who cannot be at the memorial (I now live in Omaha) can send Cheri pictures and/or memories for the book? Thanks so much!
heartbroken, thank you Randi. I was to come this weekend with my friend Hannele to see Pants. Thanks for being such a champion for our friend. Hugs, Liz Grady
