Christmas for Robbie

Exactly five years ago today, the Dover community came together before any one knew of Go Fund Me when  I reached out for my brother Michael who was critically ill.  We raised enough money to help see him through during his darkest times.  I thought it may be fitting to reach out again on the same day only this time for people I barely know. 

Since 1986, in memory of my brother Robert, I have selected a random family and anonymously donated to their Christmas in whatever way I could afford.  Sometimes it is people I know, other times people bring to my attention people in need and sometimes just by pure chance you learn of someone's heartache. 

I selected a family back in August.  A single mother of three children who has never asked for anything.  There has been significant heartache in her world but most of all her children, ages 13, 10 and 8 need something good to happen.  I've been feeling badly because this year I can barely make a dent in making a difference in this family's life ... at least not alone.  Even though I don't have a personal connection to this family, I have researched their need extensively.

One of my former brilliant students reached out the other day and that is how this idea was formed.  I have over 2000 friends on my friends list.  If everyone gave a dollar or even 50 cents-  I could pay their rent for a month and pay for their heating expenses with the hope of making it happen in enough time that the "surpise" happens just in time for Christmas...    

Here's the thing...    there's no thank you from them.  Just a belief that some how - somewhere out in the world miracles can and do happen.
