Greetings. My name is Myranda Sarro and I have the following problem:
Three years ago, I broke my lower left molar cleanly in half. At first, this wasn't quite as unpleasant as it sounds, because I experienced no pain or swelling or infection or any of the other problems generally associated with a broken tooth. It only ever bothered me under specific circumstances -- when eating super cold or spicy food, for example -- and since I could mitigate those circumstances, I put it on the bottom of the priority queue because my family was faced with many other, more urgent medical and financial issues.
A few months ago, the last piece of the tooth still above the gum line finished crumbling and fell out. From that point forward, I experienced increasing discomfort from the tooth, but nothing particularly severe. Last week, I was woken from a sound sleep by a throbbing toothache so severe I felt it all the way into my left ear. In fact, the entire left side of my face was horribly swollen from the hinge of the jaw to the chin, with a solid mass that was warm to the touch and horribly painful directly against the gum line below the broken tooth. I went to the dentist and the dentist immediately sent me to the ER for IV antibiotics because he feared that we were looking at a septic oral infection. At my follow-up appointment at the dentist, it was found that both the roots of the tooth were abscessed and it was strongly recommended that I have the tooth removed as soon as possible.
I have no dental insurance -- my dental practice kindly allows time payments on a sliding scale for uninsured individuals. The extraction will require oral surgery, and the surgeon they recommended does not take time payments but charges a flat fee due at the time of service. That fee is listed above. The surgery is currently scheduled for 9:45 am on 4/21 because it is far better at this point to remove the tooth sooner rather than later. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
