Sweetie's Medical Fund

I don't know the early details of Sweetie's life, but I do know that prior to November of 2010 Sweetie faced some major obstacles in her survival at around 18 months old. She was found starving along side of a highway in Canada; and was brought to animal control where she was given her two week due to be adopted or face euthanasia via gas chamber. On her last few hours before her pending demise, she was pulled from the shelter and placed into my care as a foster dog. She was malnourished and had a respiratory illness that came with a fever of 103. Within days, I had fallen in love with her and decided to make her a permanent part of the pack. All biases aside, Sweetie has from those first few days in our home been a source of consistent loyalty, love and happiness, thus she was given the name "Sweetie".

Now seven years on, Sweetie is facing another uphill battle with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer). After several weeks and multiple vet visits, it has been determined that Sweetie is going to have to undergo the amputation of one of her rear limbs. Fortunately, the cancer has only presented itself in that one limb, and has not spread to the rest of her body.

In order to help defray the cost of traditional veterinary medicine, we are having the surgery and follow-up care performed at the Midwestern University Veterinary Clinic and Hospital. Not only will this be more cost effective, but it will also provide a valuable teaching case study for clinicians and their students in the veterinary medicine program.

Monitarily, we cannot do this alone and have exhausted our financial means. With her pending surgery and recovery, we are at this time reaching out to friends, family and other animal lovers to help us cover some of the unexpected yet ongoing expenses of Sweetie's veterinary care. If we can not raise the funds needed we will have no other choice then to say goodbye to her. Her pain is too much and we will not let her suffer. Raising the money for her surgery, will not only prolong her life, but will also provide future veternarians with valuable knowledge in dealing with other animals like Sweetie and her condition in the future.
