Books inspire! My students deserve this new novel.

Donation protected
My new school has had a freeze on buying new books for over ten years. Not only does this mean that students don't have access to astounding new stories, but also that it's harder to keep pace in the mission to diversify the population of storytellers students encounter. White male authors are still overrepresented in the book depository, which has the doubly toxic impact of (a) marginalizing students of color, and (b) sheltering white students from alternative worldviews drawn along racial lines.

I'm making it a mission next year to write grants to expand our offerings--but I want to help my students right away! For my birthday, I'm asking you to pitch in for a classroom set of Tommy Orange's recent novel, There, There. The book centers indigenous characters and explores the many different expressions of native identity in our complex world.  It's a breathtaking novel and will support my students as they develop a broader awareness of social (in)justice.
