Melissa’s Road To Recovery

The morning of Wednesday, March 13th started as any normal day for the Denton Family. Melissa packed herself up for work and her 7th grade son, Kai for Har-Bur and off they went. Neither made it to their destination that morning. The Region 10 Community got a call from the Superintendent that morning notifying us that there was a serious accident on Route 4 and buses would be delayed.
Unfortunately, we were soon notified that our friends, Melissa and Kai were victims in this accident. They were in a head on collision with another car. Melissa saw a reckless driver in her lane and had to make an immediate dreadful decision; ‘do I drive into the telephone pole on the right and have my son take the impact or do I continue on this course and I take the brunt of the impact?’ Her answer was a no-brainer; as it would be for any parent. The errant driver hit Melissa in her lane and the lives of the Denton family were turned upside down.
Being an involved member of the community, Melissa knew most of the first responders by their first names and is forever grateful for their work that day.
Melissa & Kai were rushed via ambulance to Hartford Hospital where her long and painful journey to recovery began. Kai was released almost immediately; his only injury were burns from seatbelts and airbags. Melissa’s injuries were unfortunately more severe including; a shattered pelvis, cracked sternum, and broken ribs to name a few. She had to have surgery on her pelvis the next day and recovery from her injuries will be a long & painful, but anyone who knows Melissa knows how strong she is and that she will somehow get through this with the support of her husband Paul all with a smile on her beautiful face.
There will be a tremendous financial impact to the Dentons with missed work, medical bills and outfitting their home for Melissa’s eventual homecoming. We are hoping our amazing community will help make things a bit easier for them through this so we have started this page.
