Dear friends and family,

We are devastated to say that our beautiful Meliz lost her hard fought battle against cancer on the 27th June. There are no words to express the heartbreak her loss has caused us.

We would like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and support. Unfortunately, her rare type of soft tissue sarcoma was unbeatable, despite the extensive treatments, trials and drugs. We know that the emotional and moral support Meliz felt from you all was immeasurable and truly helped her to keep on fighting.

Total monies raised through GoFundMe and private donations = £53,831.69

Total monies spent on Meliz’s private treatments, medications and consultations = £10,135.40

Balance = £43,696.29

This balance will now go towards treatment and support for patients with soft tissue sarcoma. We will update you all with more details in due course.

Thank you again, and much love to you all,

Meliz’s family

Mels fundraising story:

Our beautiful girl Mel is battling a very rare cancer, a soft tissue sarcoma, called Epithelioid sarcoma. Mel is 28 years old. She is the most incredible, sister, fiancée, daughter and friend we could ever ask for.

In April 2016, Mel found a malignant tumour in her leg. Due to the nature of her diagnosis, chemotherapy was not an option. Her only option was to go through the most terrifying procedure and have her leg amputated. She did it and she got through it like the true warrior that she is and began to rebuild her life; despite many obstacles Mel was always determined to push forward and live life to the full. However, at the beginning of this year, the pain Mel was experiencing in her back transpired to be her cancer which had returned and spread to her lower lung. Despite extensive surgery in March to remove the secondary lung tumour, the disease soon spread to her chest. She has since been told that her cancer is terminal.

Mel is a warrior and she’s not giving up.  The treatment for this rare cancer is very complex and some of the treatments available may not be available to us on the NHS.

So, we are raising as much money as possible to contribute towards treatment for Mel’s cancer that will ultimately prolong her life.

‘While there’s life, there’s hope’

Mel – We love you and we are not giving up.
