The City Mission Sunrise Happy Children Home in Badlapur is an all-girls orphanage being supported by two college kids from the United States. With support from individual donors, the orphanage houses 60 girls, aged 6- to 18-years-old, providing them with food, shelter, and schooling until the 12th standard. These orphans are some of the most resilient, selfless, and hard-working girls who have lived through extremely tough situations. Now, more than ever, these children are facing unimaginable challenges presented by India’s lockdown during the novel COVID-19 crisis. With rising local prices and shutdown of distribution, it has become hard for these orphans to secure even basic food necessities. Additionally, amidst the lockdown, many orphans who have gotten sick (flu-like symptoms, rashes, fungal infections, etc.) are unable to get proper treatment from doctors who usually visit.
Despite all of these challenges, these wonderful and selfless orphans have taken it upon themselves to support their local community by making ‘coronavirus’ masks from scratch and delivering them to people in need, free of charge. They have created their own ‘manufacturing line’ and have been working tirelessly to sew, attach, and fit each of their handmade masks for people who truly lack money to buy the most basic virus protection. Their heart-warming work has even been highlighted on the news as shown in the video below.
These amazing girls have put the “unity” in “community” and need to be supported. With your help, we are hoping to fundraise for and support these wonderful and generous orphans. Any donation in any amount helps tremendously and will go directly towards the orphanage in the form of grocery items (Rice, Daal, Poha, Sugar, Salt, etc.), personal health products (soap, shampoo, rash cream, etc.), basic supplies to produce more masks, and financial support towards keeping the orphanage functioning.
