Music as Medicine Recording Studio

My name is Edward Dowrick, founder, researcher, and musical contributor to Vitamusic (a new start up endeavor).  Vitamusic represents an unfolding organic process in the research, development, and advancement of natural, remedial and restorative methodologies through the medium of music and sound.  It utilizes the natural process of bio-energetic transference, known as healing, in which music and sound can be a conduit for remedy, rebalancing, and assistance.  Its primary foundational pillars are the continued understanding and research of the ‘human instrument’, which includes the mind and body; music and sound as a means of expression and a carrier of energy; and the ever new understandings and study of electro-magnetism.

Research requires the right tools and the right ecology to find solutions.  I am raising money to fund a simple recording studio that can be built in a special environrment/ecology that is suited and dedicated to finding the music that can assist a person in the healing process.  Too often when the conditions are right, and the music arrives, the recording tools are not available, are quite poor, or contain background noises that are distracting and difficult to listen to.  There is a great need for some quality equipment.  

Currently, I am conducting a research at a community hospital in Tennessee using music interventions to assist with peri-operative anxiety in the healthcare setting. There is a piece of music that the musicians at Vitamusic composed specifically to nourish and settle the nerves, to be calming and corrective upon the person who may be over-stimulated and too nervous, reducing anxiety and agitation, and thereby creating a state where the parasympathetic nervous system is the main actor at play during a medical procedure.   

The funds being raised now will purchase technical equipment: Computer, Digital Audio Workstation (recording software), Midi keyboard controller, audio interface, playback speakers, recording microphones, outboard compressor, external hard drive, acoustic panels for recording room, and studio construction.  The space has already been secured.
