Murphy's Fund

Hi everyone. Murphy is about a year and a half old. When she was 8 weeks old, she was attacked by a German Shepard mix. The dog bit her in the head, causing three skull fractures and severe brain swelling. We rushed her to the closest emergency vet, and after 5 days in the puppy ICU, she survived. The only lasting symptom of the event has been occasional seizures. Murphy is on phenobarbital twice a day to help control the seizures. She visits the vet regularly, particularly over the first year to monitor her dosage. So far, my husband and I have invested over $6000 in vet bills to keep her happy and healthy.

Last night, Murphy had 5 gran mal seizures, and 3 petite mal ones. I took her to the vet hospital. They immediately began an IV of Valium, and reevaluated her dosage of phenobarbital. She had another gran mal seizure as soon as they took her back. She is so drugged up right now that she cannot walk. Since the first one at the vet this morning, she has not had anymore seizures. They are keeping her until she goes 24 hours without having one to ensure they stopped the cluster.

Before this event, Murphy was healig nicely in regard to her seizures. She went from having them every two weeks to one every two to three months. Recently, she's been having allergy issues, so we switched her to a hydraulic protein food that had a higher caloric content than her previous food. The weight gain is likely the cause of the seizures as the phenobarbital dose has been reevaluated as a bit low. We are really struggling financially right now, and we are concerned about the vet bill from this visit. They estimated it would be about $2500. 

My husband and I are recent college graduates, I'm 24 and he is 26. We both work full time, but do not make very much money yet. We have always, and will always continue to give Murphy the best care that we can.
