I'm your typical 14 year old that loves school, music, Harry Potter and being part of Scouts.
Scouts has allowed me to learn new skills, challenge my own resourcefulness and make loads of friends. My involvement in Avon Scout Radio has allowed me to combine 2 of my passions, music and talking to scouts all around the world.
Therefore when I heard about the 24th World Scout Jamboree in the summer of 2019 I was determined to go. The event will be held in the Summit Bechtel Reserve, a $50million adventure play ground in West Virginia where over 45,000 young people from all corners of the world will gather and live together for 12 days. One of the themes of the Jamboree is friendship and I am hoping to interview one person from each country and learn about their scouting traditions for my radio show.
After a rigorous selection process I was fortunate enough to secure 1 of only 8 possible places to attend. But now the really hard work beings as I am fundraising to finance my trip. The money is not only needed to fund my travel expenses but will also to used to allow scouts from poorer countries to attend.
Over the next 18 months I will be selling cakes, running quiz nights, baby sitting and bag packing my way to my £3950 target. At the same time I thought I would run a social experiment using this page to see if my story would inspire 3950 people to each donate just £1 in the name of friendship.
What are you able to do with a £1 these days? It’s less than the price of a cup of coffee but if it was invested in this fund your single £1 will make a world of difference.
When Scouts join together at a World Jamboree, they come together as members of the global community and work together for mutual gains that improve everyone’s situation. By donating to this fund you can be part of this amazing shared experience to support young people in their desire to create a more understanding and friendly world.
