Dear family and friends,
I have recently joined the fight against educational inequality by becoming a Corps Member for Teach for America- Dallas/Fort Worth. For those that don't know, Teach For America (TFA) is an organization fighting educational inequities throughout the country. We've gotten to a point in our country where the quality of one's education heavily depends on where you live, what your parents earn and the color of your skin. TFA trains and sends new teachers into schools in low-income communities so that its students can be presented in front of teachers who genuinely care about them and seeing them succeed.
I will be teaching Geometry and Pre-AP Geometry at Kimball High School in Oak Cliff beginning August 24th. Unfortunately, my school does not have the funding to supply teachers with all the supplies they need to properly lead a classroom. My 180 students are unable to buy supplies like paper, pencils, notebooks, and math textbooks. In order to bridge the gap in educational inequality and ensure that every student has an equal opportunity despite their zip code, I would like to be able to freely provide my students with the school supplies they need. I want to foster a supportive learning environment with all the tools my students need to grow to the highest level.
