Ms. Penny Needs Your Help!

Ms. Penny was hit by a car in the staging area on HYW 58 during the Presidential motorcade that came to Chattanooga in November.  A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper heard the call over the radio while assisting the motorcade and went to Ms. Penny's rescue. Trooper John Faulkerson said, "I saw her lift her head up and at that point, I knew she was still alive. So it was then that I made the decision to leave the staging area, activate my emergency lights and block traffic,” Faulkerson said.

THP Trooper John Faulkerson said he felt compassion for the dog, saying when he saw her, he thought about his own dogs. "It was just recently that I just lost both my dogs after many years of having them in the family. So when I saw her and I saw the pain she was in, and you know, I saw that she was just desperate. That’s when I knew I had to get her the necessary help that she needed,” Faulkerson explained.

It was shear luck that Faulkerson was there because without intervention she most likely would have been hit again due to the traffic and location. "It's like my dad always says, 'God's timing is perfect timing,' so I’m just grateful to be in the right place at the right time," Faulkerson added.

Ms. Penny was severely injured by the accident. Her hip joint was broken which will require two surgeries, a femoral head ostectomy and an acetabuleotomy, which will need to be performed by an orthopedic specialist at the Animal Emergency & Specialty Center of Chattanooga. Her care, surgeries and rehabilitation are estimated to cost $2,500, and we need your help to get her the surgeries she needs.

To add to her injury, Ms. Penny was not in good condition. She had been bred a number of times for a young dog and was extremely thin.

McKamey Animal Center has been taking great care of Ms. Penny since she was brought to us after the accident, but we are still in need of financial assistance for her two orthopedic surgeries. Please, think about giving so that we can get Ms. Penny back to her healthy self and get her in an amazing forever home!
