Give the Gift of Warmth to a Cold Child
Walking to school through the Detroit’s harsh snowy winter, the children of MorningSide lack coats, scarves, hats, or even gloves. Over a third of the families in Morningside live below the federal poverty line and have trouble even buying food, so winter clothing is an inaccessible luxury. Seeing these children at Ronald Brown Academy, part of the Detroit public school system, shivering on their long walks, inspired four leaders to step up and plan a project to give warmth to these innocent children, who were dealt a difficult hand in life.
With unparalleled passion, our nine volunteer board members work with others in the community, plan clothing collection events, and solicit funding to help provide winter outerwear for these poor children. However, we have come to realize that, since MorningSide has been one of the communities hardest hit by foreclosures, we need your help to achieve more support to make our dream come true. With over 823 students in Ronald Brown Academy, 57% of the community’s school age children, hundreds will remain cold without your help. With just $3,000 we can protect these children from the cold. A coat may be the only gift these kids receive all season, please join us in providing winter outerwear for needy children.
With the money we raise we will purchase coats, scarves, hats and gloves. Our plan is to raise money until December 15th and then purchase and distribute the warm clothing by mid December.
Helping to give these kids one less thing to worry about will help them to become the leaders of the future. This is very important and we are dedicated to working hard to reach our goal.
