Mr. McMahon's Boss Retirement Fund

The lucky of us have THAT teacher. The one that sticks out in our mind for making coming to school fun and learning enjoyable. They had high expectations for us but also lifted up our self-esteem so we could achieve at levels we never dreamed possible.
IN A FEW WEEKS, Mr. McMahon will retire his blues collection, boss sense of humor, signature style, and jars of water for still lifes from the public schools after 76 semesters of teaching high school art.
For 4 years I was fortunate to have Mr. (Tim) McMahon as my high school art teacher. I was not an artist when I met him but through his encouragement, I not only discovered a love of art but also found myself through art.
His sense of humor still lives in my art classroom where I take the opportunity to remind my students 'they are not dumb' (when they blurt out they are 'done'), when I stand at the door to call out to those who need a lift as they walk by my room, when I sign my late passes 'detained at art' followed by an artistic signature. When I am bogged down by the negative aspects of public school teaching, I pull strength from the Crestwood artroom circa 1990, with its tone of 'being good at something is fun' and remind myself it is my duty to pay it back.
I have NO DOUBT that there are other students out there that have positive & grateful memories of Mr. McMahon's artroom who want to PAY IT BACK.
This fund is for that. For the times you wonder why you tip the person who cut your hair or drove you downtown BUT we never tip our teachers. Here's your chance buy a drink (or night out on the town) for that teacher whose favorite expressions we still remember, whose blues music you learned to love (except Joni Mitchell, sorry) and gave you so much.
