Moving Mountains for Paul Britton

Donation protected
Paul Britton, also known as my Uncle Powercat for our shared love of K-State, is the Animal Control Officer for the City of Halstead, Kansas. More importantly, he is a husband, father, stepfather, son, brother, uncle, and Papa. Paul is a friend to all and doesn’t know the meaning of the word, “stranger.” He is a genuine God loving man that would take the shirt off of his back for anyone in need.

Paul is an avid woodworker who owns his own furniture restoration business called Project Restoration. Paul was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis in 2010 and has been on immunosuppressant therapy for 8 years. These medicines have allowed his quality of life to remain high and although 85% disabled, Paul has been able to continue his woodworking and furniture restoration business as well as invest in his love of animals as ACO. While working on a home project, Paul was exposed to histoplasma on May 5 but was not aware of it until symptoms grew stronger over passing weeks. On June 26, Paul’s breathing became labored enough that he could not stay at home and was admitted to Via Christi St. Francis Medical Intensive Care Unit. He was sedated and placed on a ventilator on the morning of June 27. After several tests, the histoplasma was discovered and he was diagnosed with histoplasmosis. Paul has now been in the ICU for 16 days and counting. He remains sedated and unable to breathe on his own. It is unknown how long the recovery process will be or the obstacles they may face with each day that passes. Once he comes off of the ventilator, Paul will still have months of recovery. It is also unknown what level of function he will have once he is able to return home.

Because Paul is a part-time employee, he will not receive a paycheck until he is able to return to work, which will not be for some time. Kerry is self-employed as a full-time dissertation coach and editor. Kerry has taken a leave of absence from editing so that she can be available whenever Paul needs her assistance. In addition to the expenses they are incurring during the hospital stay, they will have continued expenses after Paul returns home and until they can return to work.

If you are able, please consider helping my Uncle “Powercat” Paul and Aunt Kerry by sharing this fundraiser or donating a few dollars. All help is appreciated. Most importantly, we need need prayers and positive thoughts! Thank you!
