Together We Can Transform Lives

I want to tell you a story.

About a decision 10 Canadians made to travel across the world to visit a small and very poor country 10,000 km away in West Africa called Guinea.

Please watch the video to see how this decision changed our lives!

The Matoto Multicultural Arts Society is a grassroots, Canadian non-profit society that built and funds a primary school, called Ecole Communautaire Bountauraby Sylla in Kobian, Guinea, north of the capital city of Conakry.  The school was built at the request of the community where no school previously exsisted.

The school currently employs 11 teachers and serves 315 students up to grade 6.  It is more successful than we ever imagined! There is a huge interest by the community to increase the size and capacity of the school - specifically with more teachers and higher grade levels.

The problem is funding. We are a small organization and our funding base is modest. We are a completely volunteer-run organization and have no staff, so the majority of the money we raise goes directly to the school project.  So far, we have been able to raise enough money each year to grow and sustain the school, but this year, with the children aging out of the school grades and the community looking to us for increased financial assistance now and in the coming years to hire more teachers for more grade levels, we're in critical need of more donors in order to help the school grow.

We are currently hoping to expand our operating capacity by adding new classrooms and teachers for the coming school year, but we need your help!

The best way for you to help us is through recurring monthly donations.  $10/month sends a child in Kobian to school for one year!

You can visit us at  www.matoto.org/donate  to become a monthly donor, or you can donate to our Go Fund Me campaign right here!

We are also looking for corporate sponsors, so please get in touch with us for more information.

Our contact in Guinea who connected us with Kobian and helps us administer the school is Alya Gigla
Sylla.

or on our website at http://www.matoto.org/

Matoto is a completely volunteer-run organization, and most of the volunteers are women with young children who also have full time jobs.  We're doing our best with the time and resources we have, but we would be so grateful for your support to help the school grow during this next phase of it's evolution, and into the future.

If you have any questions at all about the school or Matoto, please feel free to reach out and I’d be happy to answer your questions. Thank you so much for considering our request!

Sincerely,

Please note that while Matoto is in the process of applying for charitable status from the CRA, we are not able to give tax receipts at this time.  Fingers crossed we will be able to soon!
