Mother and Daughter Restoration Project

Hi! I am Sally Mumpower Heltzel, along with my daughter, Ginny Sheffey Shaver. We are trying to fix a historical landmark, that has been in our family for well over a hundred years. But we are in desperate need of your help. Unfortunately time, family health issues, medical bills, along with some horrendous vandalism and theft have left this once beautiful home in shambles. It is truly overwhelming and heart wrenching seeing this house the way it is now from when our ancestors first built their family home. This house was built by a civil war veteran with the help of his son. It would be such a blessing to see this restored to the way I remembered and for future generations to be able to preserve this history.

Here is a little history on the property for people who may not know me or my daughter.... This is a picture of the way the place used to look back in the day....




 
There are many stories I remember and things were so different back then.  Sadly this is the state the property is in today......


 

A lot of damage to the inside and out due to robberies and vandalism.....
 


 

We have got estimates on restoring the property and with all the damage, we are estimating somewhere around $550,000.00 to restore this place back to pristine condition.  This is a lot of money and that is why we need help; there is no way we can do this alone.  Five dollars a person or what you can afford, will be appreciated more than words can express.  It costs so much more to restore than to build brand new again, but this is history that we want to preserve. 

Our dream of fixing this includes repairing the foundation, a new roof to stop further damage, fixing all porches, fixing all of inside where time hasn't been so kind and where it was horribly vandalized. Putting in a security system is in the restoration plan.  We would also like to  fix the old spring house and wash house,  where they washed clothes on the old wringer machine and by hand. Oh the memories.......

This property that my daughter and I are trying to restore is located outside of Bristol city limits in Washington County, VA.  We are hoping for the best and will be posting pictures along the way.  Please help us if at all possible with funding this project and please share this page to help make our dream possible.  My daughter and I would like to thank you for taking time to read this article and for your help.
