Mother Baby Bond - Hurricane Harvey

Donation protected
Hurricane Harvey was a terrible disaster. People lost lives, homes, belongings, schools, and businesses. In the case of local businesses, The Mother Baby Bond is extremely close to my heart. A family near and dear to me has lost their business as a result of the floods in Katy, TX.

They've lost $5,000 in inventory alone, all furnishing, decor, and the walls themselves are damaged. They're losing money every day the store is closed.

They, like many many others in Katy, don't have flood insurance. It's just so rare for it to flood like this there. So, they're sort of on their own for this one.

There are so many local businesses and families you could support. If you're able, I would love for you to support this business.  I'm Amanda Hahn, and I've known Liz and Asena Ozkan since I was 16 years old, when I moved to Katy, TX. I became fast and close friends with Liz's older daughter. I have always been treated so warmly and like family by Liz. I wish I could restore their business with my bare hands, but this is the closest thing I can do to that.

The Mother Baby Bond is a special business. It's a business built helping new families get a good start. Liz has had a long career in nursing and caring for new mothers. She left nursing and started this business to help mothers keep their breastfeeding relationship with their new childen when it is challenging to do so. She has helped hundreds of new moms and babies maintain that bond.

Her daughter and partner, Asena, is the sweetest. She is so warm and kind. For the store front, she is so helpful at supporting new and expecting moms find what they need.  Many of these women are approaching the Ozkans when they are emotionally fragile and senstive. They are both fabulous with these mothers.

I don't want their business to die. I love this family so much. It's, of course, not your job to help their business. But if you have some spare cash, and you're looking for ways to directly impact people affected by Hurricane Harvey, this is a wonderful way. Your money will go toward them restarting their business. They are hoping to get disaster aid, but this type of aid typically goes toward private citizens, not businesses. They may be able to get a loan, but anything you can contribute will help them reduce this cost.

To break it down, here is what your money will go toward:
1. An attorney to assist breaking their current lease: $1250  (Needed repairs would be so extensive that is it more cost effective to relocate rather than wait out repairs, which may not fully restore the space to its original condition.)
2. Monthly operating costs (website, rental equipment, electric bills for unused space, etc): $1400
2. Getting a new space: $7200
3. Restocking inventory: $5000
4. New furniture for reception area: $500
5. New displays, fixtures, etc.: $800+
6. Costs associating with moving the current store sign: $695. (If the current sign is not acceptable for the commercial association of the new location, a new sign is $4200)
7. Fire marshall inspection of new location: $250
8. Marketing and operating costs: $8000

Any little bit can help. If you are willing and able, I would be so happy if you can contribute. You'd be directly helping a family and a local business. When this campaign is over, I myself, will not touch the funds. Liz, as the owner of the business, will be able to withdraw the funds for the business herself as a beneficiary through GoFundMe.

Thank you, and I adore you for even reading this far.

Love,
Amanda
