Moon Tribe ~ A Rite of Passage
If you met an adult woman who wanted to step into her life with power and clarity, how would you offer to help her?
Kate Knott and Erin Campbell at the Living Earth School believe in Rites of Passage for women and girls as a way to empower individuals and to heal culture. We believe in ritual and ceremony as our birthright. We believe in guiding girls into womanhood with intention, laughter and support. We believe in the ability of adult women to go back and experience the full honoring and acknowledgement that they might have missed as girls.
Every Memorial Day Weekend for the past several years, Kate, Erin and a team of inspiring women from the Living Earth School offer a four-day Moon Tribe Rite of Passage, alternating between one for girls, and the next year for adult women. We BELIEVE that Rites of Passage are a sacred inheritance from our ancestors and should not be tethered to money. So starting this year we want participation to be completely donation based. But the costs of food, materials, venue, insurance and administration still need to be covered. We are using many different strategies to make this happen--staff are completely donating their time that weekend...moms will be cooking and donating some food--however there are still costs to cover for this year and beyond.
Help hold the vision of Rites of Passage initiations for women and girls--we can't do this alone and need your support. Help light a spark that can spread through the world!
Please see our Moon Tribe webpage for more of our story.
The weekend was perfect. There was insane laughter the first night as we played acting games and started weaving bonds of friendship. There was crafting medicine pouches while we asked and answered questions on topics ranging from menstruation to relationship to connection with our bodies. There was jumping in an icy Appalachian creek and walking through a forest blindfolded in the dark. There were potent ceremonies, and brave, powerful words shared. Each girl persevered through a several-hour long solo during which a long rainstorm came in...they emerged from this initiation with beautiful "I AM" statements of who they are and want to be.
The amount of mud was incredible. The wisdom and support of the staff was incredible. These girls, their souls and openness and curiosity shining through, are absolutely incredible.
Thank you thank you thank you. Can't say it enough.

Please send out a prayer if you could, for open hearts, for guided words, for blue sunny skies, for whatever Spirit wants for this time in the woods together. Thank you again for helping weave this into existence!

We are now over $200 past our goal (this includes money raised from a benefit concert that happened on Wednesday night!). The support of this community is incredible. Over 75 people have donated, weaving themselves into this beautiful web of support for women and girls. Thank you thank you thank you! I am very hopeful that with by stewarding this money wisely and creatively, it will last not just one year, but support two or three Moon Tribes. Kate, myself and the whole Living Earth School community express our deepest gratitude.
