Monty's Heartworm Treatment Fund

First off thanks for taking the time to check out Monty's profile, we really do appreciate it!

About 2 weeks ago my dad brought Monty, my 6 yr. old Alaskan malamute, to Dave's to get his vaccinations up to date. While there the vet recommended we have him tested for heartworm.

"Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal disease in pets in the United States and many other parts of the world. It is caused by foot-long worms (heartworms) that live in the heart, lungs and associated blood vessels of affected pets, causing severe lung disease, heart failure and damage to other organs in the body. "(https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics)

Sadly Monty tested positive. In the early stages of the disease, many dogs show few symptoms or no symptoms at all. The longer the infection persists, the more likely symptoms will develop. For the past year or so we have noticed a change in Monty's activity. He is tired a lot, not really wanting to run around at all, he looked a little wider around the belly, but we just figured he was a fat boy. Little did we know these were all signs of the disease.

Luckily there is a treatment for the disease that may save his life, but it comes at a pretty hefty price. One we could have dodged if we had him on the preventative heartguard montly tabs. If your dogs are not on this, please get them on it now or you will be in my exact situation. The treatment is quiet extensive (several months). Just alone for blood work and chest x-rays we were quoted $600 today at the vet. After all the diagnostics are back the Dr. can plan Monty's treatment accordingly. That will range from $1500- $2000 depending on any complications that may arise. My parents are helping me out mainly, but to a reasonable extent given the circumstances. I'm asking for $1000 just to help get the treatment going as soon as possible. It will maybe be half of what the total cost is once everything is said and done. Unfortunately if I cannot get enough money raised we may have to look into the second option, and that will be having to put him down soon (as in a month or 2). The disease is progressive and time is not on Monty's side.

I was very emotional when I heard the news, instant waterfalls came pouring from my cheeks. I have had to put one of my babies to sleep in the past and I just can't imagine doing it a second time, not if I can do something to try and help. If you've had the pleasure of meeting Monty you already know what a great, loveable, gentle giant that he is. If you haven't met him your missing out. He  deserves to live, and to pass peacefully at a ripe old age, not by an army of dog killing worms. I'll do as much as I can to get him the help he desperately needs. He's very special to me and I hope and pray every day he makes it through this. I know it’s a lot to ask for and I don't usually do this kind of thing but I will do anything for my babies. We all have struggles and challenges we go through ourselves but please, please think about helping my boy Monty! Thanks for stopping by and please spread the word throughout your social media platforms. #DogLoversUnite #MontyStrong
