Montecito Mudslide Housing Fund

Donation protected

My name is Carrie Mitchum. My grandparents, Dorothy and Robert Mitchum, moved from Los Angeles to Montecito in 1977 and our family has been part of the community ever since. We feel very fortunate to be part of such a tight knit group of people and now we want to help our neighbors in need. In the early morning hours of 9 January flood waters and walls of mud came roaring down from the hills destroying everything in it's path. Each one of those dots was someones home. Many people have lost everything. We are raising funds to help victims get into rentals and start rebuilding their lives. Rent in Santa Barbara is high and many people simply do not have the resources to supply first, last and deposit. These funds will be distributed directly to the victims. For people unable to donate but still want to help, we will be collecting furniture and housewares as these people will need everything. I am getting together a list of the families, how many kids they have etc.. And will update here so people wanting to contribute something specific, they may. There have been other funds established for funeral costs, temporary shelter etc... This fund is the next step in helping the survivors put their lives back together. Thank you for your compassion.
