Monica's Jewelry/Tools Replacement
Monica's jewelry studio replacement fund:
My daughter, Monica, a metalsmith and jewelry designer, reached for her dream career and launched Monica Simone Jewelry on Etsy last fall. Inspired by a year of study at the University of Washington's School of Architecture, her debut series features a line of metal pendants in the shapes of ancient sites throughout the world. Sadly, thieves recently entered her jewelry studio and stole thousands of dollars worth of precious metals, gemstones, tools, and finished pieces, including hand-blown glass, she intended to sell. She reported the theft to the police and to building management and has sought legal advice.
Monica produces inspired beauty in the world and has exhibited and won awards for her one-of-a-kind, hand-made art jewelry. She works very hard in her studio and also cares for plants in office buildings throughout the Seattle area to support herself while launching her business.
She aims to devote herself full-time to her jewelry business and has invested everything she has into building her new business. This theft dealt a serious set-back. The studio is in a rented space. She has no insurance on the studio. Her building manager is not accepting responsibility and Monica will need to pursue a lengthy legal process with an uncertain outcome to recoup her losses. Meanwhile, her bills are mounting and she is trying to keep her business going.
Monica estimates the losses to be upwards of $4,000. She is seeking $4,000 to replace lost materials so that she can get back to work in her jewelry studio, which she needs to do now.
A contribution in any amount will help this deserving young artist get back on her feet and continue to build her dream career.
Here is new incentive to contribute to Monica's jewelry studio replacement fund: With a contribution of $50 or more, you will receive an original watercolor painting by Monica! Help us get to our goal. Please donate in any amount today! Thank you!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
WE PULLED TOGETHER AND MADE IT HAPPEN!
Tomorrow marks one month since the start--and now the end--of our fundraiser to help me recover from a theft in my jewelry studio. Not only did we reach our goal, but we surpassed it! This support has helped my morale at a time when it had gone from the peak of fresh new beginnings to a devastating low.
I launched Monica Simone Jewelry in November 2016. I was beyond excited. Just five months into this life-changing endeavor, someone stole more than my thunder. With the help of my dear mother, you all were given the opportunity to help me persevere through a major setback. Your generosity and kindness have encouraged me to remember my purpose and perservere! I am now able to invest more into my business, and I am also accountable to make you all proud of the direction I take it.
TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED FUNDS, PURCHASED HAND-MADE JEWELRY FROM MY ETSY STORE, SHARED MY GOFUNDME CAMPAIGN ON FACEBOOK, READ MULTIPLE POSTS, OR SIMPLY WISHED ME WELL TO GET OVER THE HUMP:
I THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART AND I WILL NEVER FORGET HOW YOUR SUPPORT SHOWED ME THAT YOU BELIEVED IN ME AND MY DREAM.
Well, Monica pretty much said it all. I will add a few words to close.
When I heard the news of the theft and the despair in Monica’s voice I knew I had to do something, and what I, alone, could do would not be enough. I had faith in our friends.
So, I ventured into unknown territory and started a GoFundMe campaign for my daughter, who’d invested all to start Monica Simone Jewelry.
No one deserves to have their dream stolen.
We decided we weren’t havin’ it!
That’s where you stepped in--55 of you helped raise $4,265 in 28 days.
We have been blown away by your generosity. Changed, really, by the help of far-flung friends, new and old, known and unknown--all y’all are friends now. Bless you. May your own dreams prosper and bear fruit.
Viva Monica Simone Jewelry! Go to her online etsy store and get you some.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Thanks to your generosity and good wishes, we’ve raised a total of $3,885 to date in online donations and checks sent directly to Monica. Your support, be it through monetary contributions, encouraging messages, Monica Simone Jewelry purchases, or Facebook shares, has made it possible for Monica to get back into the studio from which she launched her business last fall, before the theft.
You’ve demonstrated the beauty of humanity in the face of its ugly side. And that’s priceless.
We are only $115 from our $4,000 goal. If you would like to get us across that finish line, now is the time. This campaign ends May 1.
All contributors will receive a special thank you from Monica. She also will report from time to time on her Monica Simone Jewelry Facebook page how she has used your gifts to rebuild and grow her business. Please keep in touch with her progress there.
We are humbled and ever grateful. Thank you!
Starting tomorrow, Monica is offering a special sale on all jewelry. (Just go to etsy.com and key in Monica Simone Jewelry.)
Purchasing a piece of Monica Simone Jewelry is another way to support her as she recovers from theft. And you will get an artful package of a whole lot of awesome mailed to you. (Updated April 20)
We are in a season of renewal, waking up from winter, and the same is true in Monica's jewelry studio, where she returned last night to make her art--and her living. You can see her at work in a short video she posted on her Monica Simone Jewelry Facebook page. Go have a look, and while you're there, please "Like" her page so more people see her wares!
Before Monica worked in metals, at age 20, she was a glassblower and sold her hand-blown glass jewelry, beads, and other objects. And before she had funds to invest in creating her Monica Simone Jewelry business, opening her Etsy store last fall, she made bold chokers and earrings out of metal washers she found in the streets. These wearable works of art from found objects won her an award within a juried art competition. (Some necklaces that were featured in The News Tribune were stolen.) Family and friends would get the best gifts from her! Monica joked, "There's only so much washer jewelry you can give your grandma." The truth is that we loved receiving something as artful as we'd find in any gallery, regardless of where she sourced her materials.
Monica gradually invested all of her disposable income to build her tool collection and materials inventory over time. Then, she rented a space where she could make her visions into reality. She focused on architectural shapes of ancient sites for her debut series. Brilliant! Then someone commissioned her to create a metal replica of a cathedral facade. Gorgeous. She opened her Etsy store and made her first sales. She was on her way to success using a lifetime of artistic talent, lessons, and formal education. Then, last month, someone stole jewelry she designed and crafted and materials to make her wares. Meanwhile, she had an exhibit opening at the Washington State Convention Center, which she put together and attended. Your gifts--and those yet to come--have kept her moving forward. We appreciate you! Do check out her MONICA SIMONE JEWELRY Facebook page, where you'll see updates on HOW YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS HAVE HELPED HER REVIVE AND EXPAND HER BUSINESS!
If you have not yet contributed, please hit the donate button and give in any amount. Every day, we get closer to our goal, but we can't get there without YOU! Donate, please, and share the link to this fund. Many blessings, and LET'S GO FOR GETTING THIS FULLY FUNDED in the coming week!
