Mom's wishes

People that know my mother, knows that she is one tough cookie. She is strong, stubborn and will fight until she can no longer fight. The last year and a half has been a long and out stretched battle with the Colon Cancer that we had been praying that would have gone away. 
 August 14th, 2018 was one of the hardest days our family will face. The news that the cancer was no longer shrinking but growing instead. There was a new growth on her belly that wasn't there from the last scan a few months back. Mom's oncology doctor has been absolutely fantastic and such a caring individual that mom has put so much trust into and we all just broke down when she said that we should not continue the chemotherapy. The next steps were to set up a few more scans and tests then Hospice. 
Mom had a brain scan and a throat swallow study done on the 4th and 5th of September. The brain scan showed normal deterioration of age and the throat swallow study showed that she has some weak throat muscles and it's harder for her to swallow due to her muscle loss. 
Today is September 15th, 2018 and Mom is officially under Hospice Care through Allina Health. We met with mom's intake nurse on Thursday the 13th and yesterday we met with the case manager for the symptom management, the social worker and the chaplain. They've been a very helpful team working to get moms medications under control and ordered before she runs out. They also helped us get a chair for the shower and a cane for walking around inside the house. She is still in a lot of pain and she sleeps quite a bit during the day but rest is good for recovery.
We are raising money, promoting Colon Cancer Awareness, asking for visits and/or phone calls, letters and good thoughts for mom on her healing road and pray for help. 
If we raise enough money, we will be using it for a little adventure trip for mom along with any PCA care costs since it is out of pocket.
