Rally for Molly Psyllas

In 2013, Molly was diagnosed with colon cancer. She had just given birth to her second son, Stavros.  She under went surgery in January 2014 to remove a large portion of her colon and had to go through chemotherapy for 6 months.

In November 2014, a routine CAT scan showed a spot on Molly’s lung. She had Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery to have the spot removed and it proved to be a metastasis from her colon cancer.  In April 2016, the cancer returned again to her lung and Molly had a lobectomy, removing the entire lower right lobe of her lung.  Her oncologist recommended no further treatment at the time because the risks of chemotherapy might have outweighed the benefits.

In the fall of 2016, Molly started having migraine headaches and found out her cancer had metastasized into her brain. It is very rare for colon cancer to travel to the brain. She immediately had brain surgery to remove two large tumors from her cerebellum. Once she healed from that surgery, she had gamma knife radiation to remove a third tumor from her frontal lobe.

Last month, January 2017, Molly began having more headaches.  Unfortunately surgeons cannot always get all the cells of the tumors in the brain and another tumor grew back in her head near her cerebellum. Once again, Molly had to have brain surgery.

In addition, just this week Molly suffered a severe seizure with some  painful injuries and was rushed to the hospital.  She had severe edema that they think may have caused the seizure.  She was put on anti-seizure medication and steroids. She is now home recovering, being watched closely, and has more doctor's appointments this week to determine next steps. She has to begin systemic treatment soon and possibly more radiation to her brain.

Molly has been through hell and back and still isn’t finished with this battle. She still has cancer in her lungs to fight and needs to find a cure for the cancer in her body.

In addition to the medical treatments she is receiving from her doctors here, she is doing exhaustive research to find clinical trials, alternative therapies and treatments outside the United States that aren’t likely to be covered by insurance.

We want to make sure that any options are available to Molly and there are no financial road blocks to get her what she needs so she can be around for George, Petros, Stavros, their families and all of us for a very long time.

Everyone always asks what they can do to help. The meals, cards, flowers, help and support have been incredible, but I think this is where we can help the most now. Donations don’t have to be huge. They will add up and be appreciated at any level.

Thank you everyone and bless you!
