This GoFundMe campaign allows Mohawk Industries (Mohawk/Dal-Tile: mohawkind.com ) employees to provide support for their colleagues in the Carolinas as they deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. Support from other individuals or organizations is welcomed, as well.
Mohawk Industries is the world's leading flooring manufacturer. Headquartered in Calhoun, Georgia, the company operates fiber and yarn manufacturing plants in Bennettsville, SC, as well as laminate flooring facilities in Garner and Thomasville, NC, a carpet and rug plant in Eden, NC, and an MDF plant in Mt. Gilead, NC. The Carolinas are also home to 14 of the company's sales service centers, 3 distribution centers and a number of residential and commercial sales professionals.
IMPACT OF FLORENCE ON OUR CAROLINA COLLEAGUES
Each day, we are learning that more of our colleagues in the Carolinas have experienced damage to their homes as a result of Hurricane Florence's winds and rain. As each person has reported damage, the company has initiated emergency financial support to meet immediate needs.
The HR team is staying in regular communication with our colleagues and assessing needs. Damage ranges from high water in buildings, flooded vehicles, structural damage from falling tree limbs and flying debris and wind damage to roofs and home exteriors.
Some of our colleagues in coastal areas have not yet been able to return to their homes to review damage, so we anticipate further needs emerging in the weeks ahead.
PROVIDING ASSISTANCE
While, the company has distributed urgent financial assistance to team members with critical, immediate needs, these families from our Carolina manufacturing plants, distribution centers and sales service centers (SSCs) will continue to have other short-term and long-term needs as they work to restore their homes and provide a safe and secure environment for their families.
HOW WILL FUNDS BE WITHDRAWN, DISTRIBUTED AND SPENT
All funds will be withdrawn and directed into the company's foundation, a distinct non-profit organization. Donations will be documented and accounted for by an internal committee that will review individual needs of employees that have suffered home loss or damage. The committee will then allocate relief funds according to severity of damage, as swiftly as possible. Employees will use the funds to offset the cost of home repairs, which could include helping to pay insurance deductibles or funding repairs outright if the homeowners had no insurance. Existing issues include roof damage, flooded homes causing floor and wall damage, broken windows and exterior wall damage.
