Prior to sewing, I was a teacher  in the Washington DC Public School system. My duties over the years included  K-8 Music, Kindergarten, Math, Reading, as well as leading Summer Camps.  In 2002 I moved to San Francisco and became the ED Director for 13 years at a local school.

For the past two years I've been teaching free sewing classes at my workshop here in the Mission District of San Francisco and they have been a source of fun, education, and sharing for the community.

I would like to bring that positive experience of designing, sewing, and repairing garments and bags to other parts of our community.
I'll be travelling around by bicycle, so the equipment needs to be lightweight and easy to transport.

This gofundme project will fund sewing equipment and materials specifically chosen for their mobility, lightweight, and compactness allowing me to set up a mobile sewing station anywhere.
On a sidewalk, in a store as a "pop up", at a school, or in a community center.

Expenses:
Portable  Singer 221 Featherweight sewing machine $450.00
Hand crank to convert sewing machine into non-electric  $20
Portable ultralight folding table $25.00
Portable ultralight folding stool $25.00
Thread $20.00
Needles $20.00
Fabric $50.00

Total $610.00

Let's do it!

I hope you are able to contribute and are welcome to attend any of the free sewing classes I offer! Hope to see you out there!

I've updated my funding goals.
Through careful sourcing, I was able to purchase my equipment at a lower price.
I anticipate I'll be able to fulfill all of my equipment needs in the next few weeks and get the classes started.
Again, thank you for helping the community learn new skills and have fun.

Great news I picked up the sewing machine, 1950's Singer 221 Featherweight in San Bruno.
Next step is to tune it up, adjust the timing, and get it running 100%.

I still need to get a few more items, including the hand wheel, portable table and chair to set up the mobile sewing station.

Thank you guys for donating!
I'm excited to get these free community mobile sewing classes going!
