Jenna's New Ride
Donation protected
As many of you know Jenna has a condition called CDKL5 . It is a rare condition that has affected her entire life. Since birth she has suffered seizures, a cortical visual impairment, low muscle tone, severe developmental delays and digestive and intestinal issues. In spite of all this she is a content little girl with a spunky attitude and the ability to make everyone that meets her fall in love. Although she cannot talk to us, her eyes and body movements speak volumes and let us all know what is on her mind, especially if she is not happy! She has always been content to keep us company on shopping trips, going out to dinner, occasionally attending her brother's games and visiting relatives . Her two favorite trips however are to Good Harbor Beach and to Hunters Haven Farm for hippotherapy. She is now 10 years old and getting bigger everyday. We find ourselves leaving her home more and more because the physical demand of getting her in and out of her wheelchair and car seat is overwhelming. We would love to continue getting her out with us to enjoy simple, everyday activities, but more importantly to get her to her many doctor appointments safely and comfortably. A wheelchair van would allow her to travel in her chair without the added worry of lifting her and securing her safely into a seat intended for fully functioning adults, as well as allow us plenty of room as a family. As with many things adapted for the handicap, these vans are extremely expensive and we would greatly appreciate any little bit of help. Modifications to these vans can be $10,000 to $20,000 or more above the cost of the vehicle itself. Imagine paying twice the price for the car your driving!! It's absurd, but a necessity for our family.
